A Saturday well spent watching Cricket in 30 degrees with clients

Great day, great weather, great company

The HM crew enjoyed a Saturday at Optus stadium, watching the Perth Scorchers in style surrounded by some awesome clients.

As we fast approach our first year in business, it was great to be able to invite some key people who have supported us on the HM journey. This was our way of saying thanks with some beers and great food in the hospitality suites at Optus stadium.

Unfortunately Scorchers narrowly missed out on making finals this year, but it didn't dampen what was an awesome day.

A few sore heads on Sunday though!

Last week the Hunter Manning crew braved the scorching heat to enjoy some mini golf and drinks and celebrate a fantastic first year (ish) in business.

Despite missing Kris McShane we managed to still have a great time, and Shawn Twomey and Mitchell Hunt were even kind enough to 'let' the other team win.

A huge thanks to everyone whose worked with us and supported us in 2024 and we're looking forward to BIG things in 2025!

Jodie Harris joins Hunter Manning

Welcome to the team Jodie Harris

We're over the moon to announce the latest addition to the growing team here at Hunter Manning . Jodie joins us on the Qualified Accounting desk, having racked up the air miles along the way. Hailing from the UK originally, she brings with her a wealth of experience in both the London and Auckland recruitment markets.

When she’s not making recruitment magic happen, Jodie can be found diving into the world of water sports. A certified scuba diver and free diver, she thrives on exploring the depths of the ocean (so calling Perth home seems like a smart choice!). She often says her deep focus on scuba diving has helped her hone the art of "deep diving" into a candidate’s career goals!

Jodie will be working closely with myself, Shawn Twomey and Kris McShane across the Qualified Accounting market.

HMs first annual Trivia night goes off with a bang!

What an incredible evening!!

Last Thursday, the team at Hunter Manning were delighted to be joined by over 100 Perth professionals for our first ever ‘Corporate Quiz Event!’ ❓ ��

The evening provided a fantastic opportunity for team bonding, business networking and a whole lot of fun, all whilst raising money for zero2hero

Congratulations to the winning team from Ultra Tune Australia, who get to hold the Champions trophy for the next 12 months (we'll get the engraving plaque sorted), and massive thanks to The Court and Bamboozled Quizmasters for supporting us in hosting the event.

Our personal highlight was not having to take back our own wooden spoons �� for last place. A big thanks to the Mader Group for saving our blushes �� !!

It was great to see so many of our corporate community in attendance as well as so many new faces and contacts.

We had an absolute blast, raised over $3000 for charity and can’t wait to do it all again next year!

This was just the 2nd event in our Hunter Manning ‘Event Series’ and with over $5000 raised for charity already we’re super proud of the community and networks we’re helping to build.

Experienced UK recruiter joins the HM team

Hunter Manning is Delighted to announce the addition of Beth Owen-dowling to the team. ��

Beth joins us from sunny Birmingham (where the best recruiters come from!) and will be working alongside Cathal Burke , as a Senior Associate, delivering talent solutions across Accounting Operations in Perth.

With over 12 months experience from the UK, Beth is passionate about fostering strong relationships with her clients and candidates, �� and is aligned to the high standards and culture we live by at Hunter Manning.

Outside of work she is passionate about travelling ✈ and food, �� and having spent the last few months visiting exotic places �� made the right choice to call Perth home.

We’re super excited to see what Beth can achieve at HM and she’s already making an impact on the market.

Hunter Manning does Diggers & Dealers

The team at HM braved the 8 hour driver to attend this years D&D

�� Team HM team recently returned from a 4 day trip to Kalgoorlie to attend this years Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum .

We're impressed we survived the drive up, ��given that it's 8 hours with 4 guys crammed into a car. Lots of laughs were shared, and it gave us plenty of time to set out our FY25 strategy. We even managed to bag a couple of client meetings at the Servo on the way up�� and managed to set up the camper trailer without falling out (nothing but 5* travel for the HM Talent team!)

We had a great time supporting 2 exceptional causes Full Circle Therapies Inc and Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia at the Topdrill Resources Charity Sundowner!

Shawn also took out the Gold Medal �� for 'top tosser' at the event- turns out Kalgoorlie knew he was coming!

The rest of the trip was filled with productive meetings, great networking, even greater weather (thanks Kal) and of course.....way too many beers!

So great to see such an amazing turnout, what an evening!

5 Key Points to help you ace your next interview

Do these 5 things to ace your next interview….. ��

Being able to present your experience, personality and suitability for a position, through the interview process is critical in being able to secure your dream career move.

Whilst each recruitment process can be unique, and the style and questions can vary, there are critical things you can do to prepare to ensure you ‘ACE’ your next interview.

Here are 5 points the team at Hunter Manning know will help; ��

▶ Research the company thoroughly – Being asked, “what do you know about us?” or “why do you want to work here?” Are 2 very common questions. Ultimately the interviewer is assessing your ‘care factor’ or how much effort you’ve put into the process. Make sure you know their history, key news, core values and latest financial information.

▶ Research the interviewers – Knowing who you are meeting, their background and who they are can be critical in helping you frame your answers or approach to the interview. Use Linkedin and company websites to gain this information, find common denominators with yourself and help it to build concise questions about working there.

▶ Know your CV and achievements – Knowing your CV seems obvious but make sure you have read it thoroughly. More importantly spend time thinking about achievements or challenges you’ve overcome in your career/most recent position. Having clear and concise examples of achievements will help you answer any competency based questions as effectively as possible.

▶ Avoid talking negatively about past employers – Whilst there will be reasons why you are looking to leave your current employer, or previous employers, avoid being overly negative about your manager or past companies. Make sure you answer any questions around why you left correctly but in a measured way.

▶ Answer competency questions using STAR technique – Structuring your answer to competency based questions in the right way is critical to an 'ACE' interview. Staying on point with answering the question, whilst not waffling but providing enough information to demonstrate competence is key. Using the S.T.A.R technique (Situation Task Action Result) will allow you to frame the answer is the best way.

Getting the best advice, support and preparation for an interview will be the difference between you getting the job or not.

Shortlist chats to Twomey about the new venture

Former MD of The Andersen Partnership (TAP), Shawn Twomey, has launched a new Perth-based agency, Hunter Manning .

Twomey spent nearly 10 years at TAP before leaving in October last year. He is joined at Hunter Manning by two other ex-TAP directors, Kris McShane and Mitchell Hunt, who left the business last month.

Twomey tells Shortlist the trio "wanted to build something that was a lot more employee-owned and people-focused".

This means paying "really good" commission, and funding external training and development, personal growth, and physical growth. "The idea is that we will, hopefully, have a business that manages to retain people for the long term," he says.

"If all you offer your staff is market-leading commission schemes, it's a bit like selling on price, there's always someone who can offer them a better scheme.

"So we want the business to succeed, but we want the people who help the business to succeed to share in that success."

Hunter Manning currently services finance and accounting; business strategy and transformation; retained solutions; and executive search. The company will prioritise geographical expansions before adding to its service lines, Twomey says.

We are absolutely delighted and super proud to today to unveil the launch of Hunter Manning, the newest addition to the Australian recruitment landscape, bringing together 3 exceptional recruitment leaders in Shawn Twomey, Kris McShane and Mitchell Hunt as it’s Managing Partners.

Hunter Manning has been created out of the collective vision, that we can build a company dedicated to fostering superior outcomes for our staff, clients, and candidates by “Investing In People”. Our strategy will provide a recruitment business, centred on an employee-owned structure and a commitment to ensuring our people are well developed, invested in Hunter Manning beyond a pay cheque and deliver exceptional results for our clients and candidates.

Having spent over 50 years collectively in corporate leadership roles, Shawn, Kris and Mitch share their insights below on the launch.

Why launch and why now?

"It's clichéd but I guess there's never a perfect time to launch. It's easy to fear change and convince yourself that the time isn't right (you'll always find an excuse), but as a trio we've had the pleasure of working together for some time now, and during this time we've realised that we share a strong set of shared ideals, especially around business values.
